On February 7, 2022 Ryan Moccasin spoke to the Sask Polytech community. He discussed his book Suicide Empire, the writing process, and what led him to authorship. This is a recording of the live zoom event.
Ryan Moccasin has five years of experience as a freelance writer, specializing in content related to fiction, humor, and journalism. A notable author, satirist, and comedian from Saskatoon, he is currently executive producer for the online satirical news website called The Feather. His fake news articles and videos have been featured on APTN InFocus, CTV, and CBC. His work has garnered over thousands of views and impressions on social media. His work has been funded by the Saskatchewan Arts Board, PAVED Arts, and the Indigenous Screen Office.
The body of work done with The Feather has led to opportunities such as winning the web series pitch competition for the ImagiNATIVE/APTN festival. Most recently, his TV script was chosen as a finalist in Netflix’s Virtual Pitch Day.
His recent sci-fi novel "Suicide Empire" was featured on CBC Radio, APTN, and Eagle Feather News. It can be found on Amazon and wherever fringe books are sold near you.
He has also written a Christmas screenplay for the Gordon Tootoosis Native Theatre Company. When not pretending he knows how to write plays, he is also working on his next novel called "Lullaby For Emily" which is slated for release in 2022.
